The film Skyfall starts off with the main character which is Daniel Craig who plays James Bond drowning. The establishing shot is aimed at the protagonist of the film which is James Bond. At the start of the opening sequence a low angle shot is used to mainly show power towards someone whereas in this specific clip you can see that this has changed around and is the complete opposite of this, it shows vulnerability and weakness within Daniels character as he is sinking to the bottom of the ocean. This is then specifically changed to a medium shot which shows Daniels facial expressions, which is then zoomed out to show the woman’s hand grabbing the protagonist’s wrist pulling him further down in the sea, which could then show to the audience that he is either weak or that he has enemies which are trying to attack him. You can see that after this has happened a card board cut out floats towards the camera with blood coming out of where the heart would normally be showing to the audience that there is danger involved with what is going on, also the fact that the cardboard figure is based on Daniel’s body you can kind of see that he is the main target and that everyone wants to try and kill him and try and go after him. A panning shot is then used to show the figure of her entire body. An extreme close-up of the main characters eyes is used to end the opening sequence. The camera zooms into his pupils which suggests to the audience that the film is portrayed through the protagonists point of view. The close up shots add more depth and emotion in terms of the audiences understanding of the film. Mise En Scene this shot is of falling knives which turn into gravestones. This is significant as it foreshadows upcoming events in the film, you could potentially see this as Daniel being stabbed later in the film or potentially give you the idea that something bad is going to happen to him. For example Raoul Silva who plays Javier Bardem gets stabbed later on in the graveyard by a knife. The opening sequence of Sky fall contains fast pace editing, to keep the audience engaged and interested from the beginning of the film, as they will not want to look away in case they miss something. The opening consists of CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) editing, for example when knives turn into gravestones, and when we witness James Bond entering a black hole. To start off the opening sequence low key lighting is used in order to add mysterious and a spooky atmosphere. Sounding within the opening sequence is a song sung by Adele named after the film “Skyfall”, diegetic sounding is used when James falls down the waterfall. The start of the song starts of quite and then gradually builds up and increases in sound as the protagonist is being pulled further down, this has a dramatic effect and adds tension to increase the climax that is being built up. The line where Adele sings, “this is the end” contrasts the fact that it is the said at the start of the film and not at the end. Which is the followed by the line, “hold your breathe and count to ten”, which is then used when he is being taken under the water and being drowned.
